Toastmasters Contest: What is your Favorite Season and Why? (Table Topics by Geoff Peters)

Geoff Peters gives a 2 minute impromptu speech (“Table Topics”) to the Vancouver Toastmasters Club 59 speech contest.

The topic was “What is your Favorite Season and Why is it Special to You?”.

The Toastmasters Contest took place at Vancouver Toastmasters Club 59

Special thanks to Oxana for being Contest Chair, and for Karen for interviewing me.

More info:
In “Table Topics”, the speaker has the challenge of giving a 1 to 2 minute improvised speech on a topic that they find out right there and then. It’s a great way to practice quick thinking and learn how to deliver a speech on the fly. Normally at a Toastmasters meeting the table topics speakers are given verbal and written feedback / evaluation by an audience member. However, in a Toastmasters contest situation, contestants are judged rather than evaluated, and the winner will go on to compete at the next level (such as the Area contest which is another elimination round between nearby clubs).

Thanks for watching!

Technical notes:
Audio filmed with Rode Videomic Pro, edited with Audacity (High pass filter at 79hz, Noise removal -7db, SC4 compressor with 2.0 ratio, and W1 limiter around -12 threshold).
Video edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 on a Windows 7 Dell PC (Intel i7 and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow).
