Damagomi Project by Floris Schönfeld – Art Exhibit at CCA grad show 2013 very cool

Geoff from geoffmobile.com visits the California College of the Arts and documents his experience at one of the exhibits from the 2013 MFA Thesis Exhibition.

California College of the Arts
www.cca.edu

Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 25, 2013 (open daily, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.)
www.cca.edu/news/2013/04/15/cca-presents-2013-mfa-exhibition

From the CCA web site:
“The MFA Show will be a dynamic exhibition of work in a vast range of media. It is curated by faculty member and respected writer and art critic Glen Helfand, who notes, “CCA’s MFA Show is always a wonderful opportunity to introduce a new group of imaginative, innovative, emerging artists to the CCA and Bay Area communities.

“This year the show is particularly rich in photographic works and immersive, media-based projects. It reflects a diverse range of interests and approaches, and will surely make for a highly engaging visitor experience.”

About the exhibit’s artist: (from the CCA website):

Floris Schönfeld
vimeo.com/florisschonfeld

“Floris Schönfeld focuses on the relationship between fiction and faith. His multipart installation The Damagomi Project centers on retelling the history of the Damagomi Group, a loosely affiliated group of spiritualists and academics that was active from the early 1930s until the late 1970s and experimented with direct communication with Northern California’s natural world.

By reenacting a number of the group’s original experiments, Schönfeld questions to what extent the power of fiction can be used to reshape reality, and how far belief can be replaced with a suspension of disbelief.”

This video about the Damagomi Project was filmed by myself, Geoff Peters geoffmobile.com on a Sony Cybershot RX100 and edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5. Please subscribe :) youtube.com/geoffmobile

Homemade Wind Muff for Sony Rx100 – get rid of wind noise on your videos!

Geoff from geoffmobile.com shares a quick tip to create your own Wind Screen eliminate or reduce wind noise when recording videos on a point and shoot camera.

Please subscribe :) youtube.com/geoffmobile thank you!!!!

To prevent the wind from hitting the microphone, I attach a piece of fake fur fabric to the microphone area using Stickytack (Removable adhesive). Be sure to avoid blocking the microphone holes with the stickytack.

You will need:
-Camera with built in microphone (this works with Canon SLR cameras too! I also did it for my T2i)
-Scissors
-Fake fur fabric (from fabric store)
-Stickytack removable adhesive (get a good brand – the stickier the better :)

Instructions (as shown in video):
-Cut out a piece of fake fur fabric to fit over the microphone holes
-Take a piece of stickytack and roll it into a snake.
-Put the stickytack onto the camera around the microphone holes (but be sure not to block the holes)
-Put the fake fur fabric piece onto the camera so that it sticks to the stickytack and covers the microphone holes (the sound will still travel through the fabric, but the wind will not!)
-You’re done! Try it out in the wind outside :)
