Cleaning my Camera Lens (Sony HX9V) – How to clean a point and shoot camera lens.

Geoff from geoffmobile.com shows what it looks like from the camera’s perspective when he goes through the process of cleaning his camera’s lens.

Tools used:
Led flashlight from China
Digiblower (hand pump air blower)
Brush blower (a blower with a gentle lens cleaning brush attachment)
Tiffen Lens Cleaning Paper (highly recommended)
Q-Tips (not shown) – do not apply directly to lens.
Optex lens cleaning solution

Here’s the steps I used for how to clean the point and shoot camera’s lens:

1. Be sure to use the blower and brush to get rid of all the dust on the lens before wiping it with the lens cleaning paper, or else the dust could scratch the lens.
2. After blowing and brushing, I applied a small amount of lens cleaning solution to the cleaning paper, and gently wiped from the center in a circular motion.
3. I also used q-tips with the lens cleaning paper underneath to reach the edges of the lens.
4. Finally wipe in a circular motion (gently) with the dry part of the paper to polish the lens.

It is best to put the camera in video recording mode while cleaning, so that the lens doesn’t close up during cleaning (which could damage the lens).

Recorded on a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX9V point and shoot camera.

Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (Intel i7 and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow, on a Windows 7 Dell PC).

Songs playing in background:

1. The Kinks – Shangri-La from their album: Arthur: Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire (1969)

2. Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66 – Pretty World
