Geoff from geoffmobile.com plays an improvised jam on his Korg ms2000b synthesizer. Hope you enjoy it!

Cheers,
Geoff

technical notes:
Synthesizer: Korg MS-2000B (MS-2000)
Cameras: 2x Canon EOS Rebel (550d) T2i with Magic Lantern
Sound: Motu 8-pre *unfortunately the unit was recording at 48khz but the recording software was recording at 44.1khz, so the audio does not sound as “sweet” as usual! Sorry!
Spoken word audio: Sony ICD-SX712 plugged into lapel mic.
Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.2) on a Windows 7 Dell PC (USB 3.0 and Intel i7 for a faster workflow).
Lighting: Two lights, one bounced out of a silver umbrella (in front of my face) and one low down shining on background with a colored plastic card to add a funky effect.

Geoff Peters from Vancouver BC Canada geoffmobile.com discusses “Does Viewcount on Youtube matter?”

Summary:

What is viewcount?
-On Youtube, it is the number of times people around the world have watched the video.

Why is it important?
-art / media is only active when people are seeing it.

Is more better?
-Not necessarily. To have an impact, it depends who is watching, not necessarily how many.

Making Money?
-More = Better for advertising / monetization.

Niche vs mass appeal
Also, target to specific interests, regions, or demographics

Thank you!
Hope to see you again on geoffmobile.com

Geoff from geoffmobile.com does a 20 minute rehearsal / jam on his Korg MS-2000B analog modelling synthesizer.

My goal during this video was to develop / compose some new song ideas for rehearsing with my friend Jason (who plays electronic drums).

I begin with a discussion about the equipment used to film/create this video. The music starts at 1:09 .

I think I came up with 2 or 3 cool ideas in this short session, which I will hopefully flesh out later.

This video is more of a documentation of my creative process rather than entirely a performance (so may not sound interesting or pleasant the entire time). Also I realized when I started playing that the keyboard was too low, so I had a pretty uncomfortable playing position for this jam (but maybe that affected my musical ideas, for better or worse?

I am finding I really like the sound of the basic Triangle Wave patch, and find it suits my style and ideas well. The KORG MS2000 synth allows the basic patch to be easily modified in real-time using the many knobs. This is great for a live performance. I am only beginning to scratch the surface of what this amazing synth can do!

Thanks for watching, please subscribe, and see you next time

Cheers,
Geoff

Technical notes:
Synthesizer: Korg MS-2000B
audio was recorded in stereo on my Sony IC Recorder ICD-SX712. No mastering or compression was done to the audio (it’s straight off the synth).
Intro camera is a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX7V with manual white balance.
Synth Camera is a Canon EOS T2i with Kit Lens 18-55mm IS, manual white balance, Standard picture style, ISO1600, Magic lantern (used auto restart feature for the video), manual focus.

Video was synced with the audio track using Pluraleyes from Singular Software, and the video was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, on a Windows 7 Dell PC (Intel i7 and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow).

Geoff from geoffmobile.com does a 30 minute improv / practice / performance on his Korg MS-2000B synthesizer.

Geoff (me) is still a beginner at synthesizer but I think that I discovered some pretty cool sounds, textures, melodies, and harmonies. My musical background is originally from Classical Piano, and then I studied jazz piano for several years. Exploring the possibilities of the synthesizer is really amazing for me – I am discovering so many amazing sounds and new ways to express my musical ideas through this fantastic instrument.

For other music from me, check out the following playlist with my other synth jams:

www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL95BF756FBEF7304C&feature=plcp

or my jazz CD on iTunes:

itunes.apple.com/us/album/one-dance/id359501126?i=359501404&uo=6

I also have another channel dedicated to my jazz music:

www.youtube.com/geoffpeterstrio

At the end of this synth jam video, watch me learn the song “What Child is This” from memory (by ear) – showing the learning process for me, including how I deal with the mistakes and train my mind to learn the song in a matter of a few minutes. Maybe I’ll make another video with just this song for the New Year! (Check back soon )

Technical notes:
Both cameras are Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D), both using the kit lens 18-55mm IS (with IS disabled, as the tripods are being used). Technicolor Cinestyle Picture style, Magic Lantern Unified. Edited with Adobe Premiere CS5.5 on a Windows 7 Dell PC (Intel i7, 16gb ram, and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow). The total rendering time for this video was around 6.5 hours due to the length of the material, and the color correction rendering (RGB Curves in Premiere) applied to both videos.

Audio was recorded in stereo from the synth into a Motu 8-pre (Firewire) hooked up to an old White Macbook running Logic. No mastering, EQ, or compression was done to the audio (it is right off the synth!). I hope my old macbook keeps running for a while since I am not sure if the great Motu interface will work with a PC (it requires a specific Texas Instruments Firewire chip on the computer which is hard to find nowadays).

Thanks and see you next time!

Geoff Peters from geoffmobile.com discusses some trends he is noticing in the retail sector here in Vancouver BC Canada.

Firstly, the Chapters book store has made a dramatic shift away from selling paper books, and is focusing on selling their Kobo e-reader devices, ebooks, as well as high quality (but probably Chinese-made) gift items such as clocks, candles, telescopes, lamps, cheese roasters, etc. These gift items are priced quite high but are probably sourced quite cheaply from prime distributors in China. Similar gift items are available much cheaper at Dollar stores such as Daiso in Richmond. The magazines have been moved to the second floor, and the kids section has grown. The third floor is mostly unchanged and is where most of the fiction books remain.

In this video I also comment on the seeming death of Video rental stores such as the now bankrupt Blockbuster (Rogers Video on Davie is now “under renovation”, but I suspect won’t return as a video store) and the closing of CD/DVD retailers such as the large flagship HMV Store downtown. Note that HMV staff said that people _are_ still buying CD’s, but in much fewer quantities and expect a lower price. so they can’t afford the rent for such a large 3-floor megastore. They are planning on re-opening in a smaller store.

Where will these people work instead? Information work perhaps? But there is also a trend in automating some levels and parts of the traditional information workers’ jobs through reporting tools, eliminating the need for a lot of excel manipulation of data. It remains to be seen if the global economy recovers with the same level of employment as pre-recession.

Perhaps new developments in rapidly-increasing affordability of Solar panels will allow people to throw off their dependence on centralized systems of energy distribution and control.

I am suggesting that these current changes I noted in retail are quite small compared to what might be coming in the future – perhaps there will be fundamental changes to the way the world economy functions when we no longer need to rely on oil production and centralized electricity/energy distribution for our basic energy needs.

See you next time!
Cheers,
Geoff

Technical notes:
Filmed on a Canon EOS T2i using Magic Lantern, Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens, lapel mic plugged into camera, manual audio gain (via magic lantern). Used Technicolor Cinestyle picture style and applied s-curve using Adobe Premiere RGB Curves tools. Edited with Adobe Premiere CS5.5.2 (fully licensed/legal copy) on a Windows 7 Dell PC (Intel i7 with 16GB ram and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow). Audio was mastered in Audacity (a free audio program).
Lighting: Key light was a 200 Watt household bulb placed in a Can-style video light with a piece of diffusing gel attached, placed directly above, in front of the subject (above the camera). Fill light is a halogen wall light.

A test of my camera’s picture style option to get more accurate color.

Background info and Instructions: www.eoshd.com/content/641/hands-on-guide-to-technicolor-cinestyle-lut-curves-and-canon-600d

Instead of LUT Buddy I used the Native Technicolor RGB curves for Adobe Premiere:

Sorry – I am quite out of focus in the video. next time I’ll use my external monitor and make sure it’s focused properly

Thanks, hope you find this test useful!

Cheers,
