Today I visited Sushi Star, one of my favorite places in downtown Vancouver for a quick Japanese sushi bite. I ordered some take out sushi (the Spicy Roll Combo) but it was a pleasant temperature out and wasn’t raining, so I decided to eat on the small patio table that is right outside the restaurant (the table is covered in case of rain).

The Spicy Roll Combo is really great (just over $10) and is a very generous amount of food (as shown in the video above). It comes with a large Spicy Tuna roll, a Chopped Scallop roll, and what looks like a large crab-filled California roll with some tempura prawns added as well. The whole dish is presented with lots of tasty mayo sauce and crispy fried tempura garnish.

It’s a great meal when I am in the mood for sushi and am in a hurry (as I call ahead to get take out), and want something big, delicious, and satisfying.

Great Chinese Food at one of my favorite Vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver BC Canada.

This restaurant is great, they are open to midnight , I think (every day!). but please call them in advance if you are planning to go there late at night, to confirm they will be open.

Also we noticed there is a good diverse mix of locals always frequenting the restaurant including both Chinese / Asian families as well as Caucasian and other ethnicities.

Laziza is a welcome new addition to the Davie Street strip in the West End of downtown Vancouver. Nice upscale decor, a varied menu with really healthy food (lots of balance such as proteins (great seafood and meats if so inclined), carbs (great rice and couscous), vegetables that are grilled in a Shishkabob Mediterranean style).

Mediterranean food combines the best of a diverse range of cultures that border the Mediterranean Sea, and we see influences from Spanish cooking in the pita chips and salsa, right down to the presentation of the Chicken Stuffed Prawns which had the rice artfully presented in a pyramid shape.

Davie Street is great because the prices are actually affordable, and not as high as the decor might suggest. This is a great place to bring a date or have an enjoyable dinner with friends.

Pho Thai Son is recommended to me by my (dining) partner who is of Vietnamese descent. We enjoyed a delicious bowl of Seafood Rice Noodle Soup (it’s not exactly the same thing as Pho but is still served in a huge bowl with noodles and a yummy broth. the Seafood Rice Noodle soup has a cleaner tasting broth than the Pho, but it was really refreshing, invigorating and delicious!)

The food was really delicious, I highly recommend eating at Pho Thai Son on East Broadway in Vancouver BC Canada. It’s a 10 to 20 minute cab ride from downtown Vancouver BC Canada.

The route:

Recorded at 8pm on May 10th 2011. I start at Kensington Shopping Plaza in Burnaby (on East Hastings Street), and drive West along Hastings all the way into Vancouver, through the Downtown Eastside and into the business district. I then turn left onto Burrard Street and drive south to Robson (famous shopping street) and then go along Robson all the way to Vancouver’s west end, where I explore Denman Street down to Davie, and then back past Burrard again down to Granville.

The music:

The music is Perceptions and Sea of Tranquility by Colin Pombo. Thank you so much Colin and friends for the amazing music, I am so glad to feature it here. You guys rock!!

The camera:

I placed my Sony Cybershot DSC-HX7V on my dash using a mini-tripod which I got from London Drugs. I then recorded the drive in 17 megabits per second 1080i (60i) using manual white balance that I calibrated to a 18% Grey Card. I then imported the video into Windows Live Movie Maker, sped up the clips 8x and then added Colin’s great music. I really like my Sony HX7V, which is the latest camera from Sony that just came out last month. It is currently $349 at London Drugs, a little point and shoot camera. As you can see the quality is really great – so much improved over last years models.
