Geoff from geoffmobile.com shows what it looks like from the camera’s perspective when he goes through the process of cleaning his camera’s lens.

Tools used:
Led flashlight from China
Digiblower (hand pump air blower)
Brush blower (a blower with a gentle lens cleaning brush attachment)
Tiffen Lens Cleaning Paper (highly recommended)
Q-Tips (not shown) – do not apply directly to lens.
Optex lens cleaning solution

Here’s the steps I used for how to clean the point and shoot camera’s lens:

1. Be sure to use the blower and brush to get rid of all the dust on the lens before wiping it with the lens cleaning paper, or else the dust could scratch the lens.
2. After blowing and brushing, I applied a small amount of lens cleaning solution to the cleaning paper, and gently wiped from the center in a circular motion.
3. I also used q-tips with the lens cleaning paper underneath to reach the edges of the lens.
4. Finally wipe in a circular motion (gently) with the dry part of the paper to polish the lens.

It is best to put the camera in video recording mode while cleaning, so that the lens doesn’t close up during cleaning (which could damage the lens).

Recorded on a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX9V point and shoot camera.

Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (Intel i7 and USB 3.0 for a faster workflow, on a Windows 7 Dell PC).

Songs playing in background:

1. The Kinks – Shangri-La from their album: Arthur: Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire (1969)

2. Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66 – Pretty World

The Power of the Video Language
by Geoff Peters, Feb 9th 2012

geoffmobile.com

Presented to Best Run Toastmasters club in Vancouver BC Canada.

- The power of video to communicate ideas

Intro:
Youtube:· 8 years of content uploaded every day, Over 3 billion views of videos /day
But what’s significant about Online Video?
Why should you get involved and learn how to create it?

1. Visual culture and language
2. Communicate complex ideas quickly
3. Scalable to time and place.

1. Visual culture and language
-We’re a visual culture: younger generation, TV watchers, a visual language of film.

- NyTimes: – Average American: 34 hours of television each week (2010)

- Canada: around ½ that.

- 2-6 hours /day of TV compared with 30 minutes of reading.

2. Communicate complex ideas easily:

- Documentaries have power to change real world (Super Size Me).

- Example of my new website for instant mashups to idea to reality in 1 week, developed by someone I don’t know.

Combine sound and still or moving images, capture reality or show something abstract.

3. Scalable to time and place
– Anyone can watch a video, jump traditional hierarchies.

Godfrey’s video idea gets noticed by directors.
– Can reach a large audience, video player does the work for you (Youtube).
– People watching don’t have to be located in the same place or time as you.

(Sharing my videos with virtual friends in Berlin Germany, Vietnam, Japan, Australia).

Conclusion:
- Ability to create, communicate in video, and interpret the language of video

- will become an important part of literacy.
Video language – power to communicate complex ideas quickly,

and scale across the globe or across an organization.
Technology for making video is getting cheaper – through TV and Youtube we already know the language, so let’s get comfortable speaking it!

Other notes:

Idea in your head to Words to Interpretation to Thoughts in another person’s mind.

Richness of mediums:
-In Person – one on one
-Phone (one on one, voice only, not rich, real time)
-Video (scalable)

Broadcasting to many

Advantages:
Vlogging
Abstract vs discussion
Editing is needed?

Easy:
Need: Tripod, camera, computer (iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker = free)

Advantages of video blogging.

Recorded with:
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX7V (camera)
and Sony ICD-SX712 (audio recorder)

Geoff Peters from geoffmobile.com discusses the concept of Alphabetical Order and whether it is still a valuable way of organizing information in the current information age.

Geoff also discusses a viewpoint of Alphabetical Order as a simple, easy to understand way to organize information, and how it (and other systems of organizing information) can be used as a marketing tool or advantage over one’s competitors.

Geoff Peters and his friends KL and TH visit Yutaka Japanese Cuisine in Vancouver to try their signature dishes.

We were really impressed with the food at Yutaka – the creative and delicious choice of ingredients, great “international flaire” concept to Japanese cuisine, great presentation, and friendly staff.

Shown in video:
-Interview with restaurant manager, Sunny, about the Concept for the menu at Yutaka
-Salmon Carpaccio (raw salmon served with specially prepared balsamic vinegar and salad)
-Firecracker roll (with homemade sauce) – crabmeat, avocado, cucumber, tobiko
-Sunrise roll – mango, crab, tobiko, avocado, avocado, white fish
-Pearl chicken – crispy texture of rice pearls on tender chicken, served with Japanese Mayo, crunchy but not greasy
-Robata chicken skewers (slow cooked on the grill)
-Ebi Filo (Filo prawns) – our favorite dish that we tried! prawns done in a tempura style with Greek filo pastry instead of tempura batter… so scrumptious! served with special sauce
-Bacon and tomato skewers
-Beef Enoki – skewers of beef wrapped around Enoki mushrooms
-Beef stone rice – AAA Angus Beef, rice, and quail egg on top, cooks in the stone bowl. (Influenced by the Korean style of stone bowl cooking).
-Interview with Eugene, the bartender at Yutaka about his favorite drinks, their Sake selection, and what’s available On Tap.
-Thanks very much!

This has been another yummy “mmm” restaurant video from geoffmobile.com

We enjoyed a really wonderful meal at Provence. Provence is quite a high end dining establishment – the food is extremely amazing and delicious, and for a special treat I definitely think it is worth the upscale price. The restaurant also has a great view of the False Creek waterfront from its Yaletown location.

Shown in video:
-Looking out the restaurant window at the patio and waterfront seawall beyond.

-The Wild Pacific Salmon entree
made with bamboo rice, shaved asparagus salad, crustacean emulsion

-The Seared Sablefish entree
made with snap peas, fingerling potatoes, fresh mint, roasted roma tomato, and a chorizo-tomato broth.

-For dessert:
a wonderful Lemon Tarte, made with hazelnut brittle and whipped cream.

Thanks very much!

Sushi Star
750 Nelson Street
Vancouver, BC, Canada
phone: 604-974-0079

Restaurant Web site:

sushi-star.ca/

Today I visited Sushi Star, one of my favorite places in downtown Vancouver for a quick Japanese sushi bite. I ordered some take out sushi (the Spicy Roll Combo) but it was a pleasant temperature out and wasn’t raining, so I decided to eat on the small patio table that is right outside the restaurant (the table is covered in case of rain).

The Spicy Roll Combo is really great (just over $10) and is a very generous amount of food (as shown in the video above). It comes with a large Spicy Tuna roll, a Chopped Scallop roll, and what looks like a large crab-filled California roll with some tempura prawns added as well. The whole dish is presented with lots of tasty mayo sauce and crispy fried tempura garnish.

It’s a great meal when I am in the mood for sushi and am in a hurry (as I call ahead to get take out), and want something big, delicious, and satisfying.

This has been another tasty “mmm” video from geoffmobile.com

Technical notes:
Filmed on a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX7V in full HD 1080i. (60i). Manual white balance was used, calibrated to a grey card. Camera uses automatic exposure and focus (but has a power zoom and stabilizer that operates during filming).

See you next time!!

cheers,

Geoff from geoffmobile.com reviews the movie My Cousin Vinnie (1992).

It’s a laugh-out-loud comedy with hilarious characters and a fun story. Directed by Jonathan Lynn. Starring Joe Pesci, Marisa Tomei, Ralph Macchio, and several other great actors.

Technical notes on the lighting used in this video:
-a 200W incandescent bulb was bounced off an umbrella camera right.
-a 60W incandescent bulb was directed downwards towards my head and shoulders from behind me and to the left of camera.

Camera used:
Canon EOS T2i with Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens.
24 fps 1080p, F2.5, shutter 1/50, ISO 800
Ektachrome Picture Style (from cinema5d.com)
Magic lantern firmware

Microphone:
-Sony ECM-MS907 Stereo Condenser microphone, on mic stand, plugged directly into camera with Magic Lantern’s Automatic Gain Control off (AGC off), and using full 32db analog gain and 18db digital gain.

Titles added in Windows Live Movie Maker on a computer with Windows Vista. (I do have Final Cut Pro on my mac but I prefer WLMM for short videos like this. I filmed, processed, and uploaded this video in 1.5 hours from start to finish).

Movie IMDB:

www.imdb.com/title/tt0104952/
