VANCOUVER CANADA, May 1, 2014 – The award-winning debut feature from writer, director A.J. Bond, Stress Position, opens in Vancouver on May 23, 2014 at the Vancity Theatre with further expansion in the following weeks. Stress Position is a genre-bending feature film about two close friends who make a bet to see which of them can withstand a week of psychological torture at the hands of the other.

How bad could it be?

The Rules: 1. No severe pain 2. No permanent physical damage 3. Nothing illegal

Inspired by a flippant remark about the torturous enhanced interrogation techniques used by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay, director A.J. Bond and his friend and longtime collaborator, David Amito, designed personalized torture regimes aimed at breaking each other’s will, but without causing any severe physical pain. Set entirely in and around an avant garde torture chamber custom built in an isolated warehouse, the film captures the surprising trajectory of the experiment from both sides of the cell as the two friends play both victim and oppressor, not to mention actor and director.

Marguerite Moreau makes a special appearance behind the scenes in her capacity as associate producer, overseeing the competition and keeping the participants honest. What begins as a bizarre and darkly humorous Reality TV scenario gradually spirals into an alarming study of control, obsession and the search for truth. Stress Position is a thought provoking feature film debut by writer- director A.J. Bond, charting the dissolution of a friendship while exposing the unsettling connection between filmmaking and torture.

Stress Position is produced by The Siblings; A.J. Bond and Amy Belling along with Jessica Cheung, with the participation of Telefilm Canada.
